I graduated from Portland State University’s Counseling Education program with a focus on Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling. In my education I worked with children and parents, relationships, and individuals through the PSU Community Counseling Clinic and Family Roots Therapy. Before becoming a family counselor I was an elementary teacher for 15 years. Through my work as a teacher, I developed a strong understanding of the unique challenges and pressures faced by children and parents today. I found a passion for supporting children and parents with emotional and behavioral challenges with a strengths based approach. In my work as a counselor I have discovered that the challenges we face and lessons we learn in childhood with our families of origin follow us into our adult relationships and lives. I believe in working with children and parents to build strong foundations for the future, as well as working with adult relationships and individuals to address the issues that arise from our past in order to move forward.
About Megan
Phil0sophy
I work with clients across the lifespan both in relationships and individually. With children and adolescents, I engage in non-directive Child-Centered Play Therapy and Activity Therapy. I provide a space for acceptance of the child as they are and provide supportive reflection of their experience in order to support their understanding of themselves and their unique emotional experiences. I also work collaboratively with parents to support their child though building connection and understanding how the dynamics of the relationship impact behavior. With families, relationships, and individuals I work from a Family Systems foundation, examining the rules, roles, and power dynamics in our relationships that inform how we show up with each other and in the world. I integrate Gestalt and EFT approaches in order to use feelings and emotions in order to better understand our needs, actions, and responses to others in order to make choices that align with goals and values.
